Why is the Foxit Quick PDF Library installer around 100 MB?
Don’t worry, the installer for Foxit Quick PDF Library might be around 100 MB these days but the binaries that you will need to distribute with your application are much smaller. The reason the installer is so big is that it includes:
- 4 different Editions of the library (Delphi, ActiveX, DLL, LIB)
- The Delphi Edition includes 38 binaries for the various different versions of Delphi from the past 15 years
- Each Edition includes the 32-bit and 64-bit version and import files for various programming languages
- Function Reference, Developer Guide and Getting Started Guides as PDF files
- Code samples
- Demo application
All of those items adds up to around 100 MB. But like we said, don’t worry. When you deploy your application you only need to deploy the binary (unless you’re using the Delphi or LIB edition which are statically linked) for the edition of the library that you’re using. So using the 32-bit DLL edition as an example, all you need to distribute with your executable is the “DebenuPDFLibraryDLL[contentblock id=1 img=gcb.png].dll” file and that is only 5.59 MB.
When you deploy Foxit Quick PDF Library you do not need to deploy our installer — in fact, we we recommend that you don’t do that — you just need to take the library files that you need and copy those into your own installer or deployment package.
So in summing up, the file that you distribute with your application is more likely to be around the 5-7 MB size, rather than 100 MB.
