Eclipse’s Dilemma

Before contacting Foxit Software, the company had a problem where printing PDFs from handheld devices within a warehouse was nearly impossible. Customers had emphasised the need to print a PDF reliably as a must-have within the SupplyPoint plug-in. Eclipse tried workarounds like using an old Adobe product, or running Powershell and using a PDF viewer in the background, to provide printing capabilities to customers. But, as time went on, Windows launched security patches or updates which rendered these workarounds useless. In most cases, even with the workaround, the ability to print was not perfect and was severely hindered when the likes of layered PDFs were introduced into the equation. Edge cases could not be dealt with easily, meaning a less than ideal user experience for businesses.

Print Manager for .NET

Eclipse contacted Foxit in July 2017 when their latest workaround stopped performing. The problem they were trying to solve was the ability to print PDF documents within their SupplyPoint scanning application. Foxit’s PDF Print Manager for .NET was the right product at the right time for them. .NET Print Manager is an SDK with an easy-to-use API which allows developers to automate PDF printing to physical printer devices from within any .NET web or server-based application. From within this product you can manage multiple print jobs, verify print settings and handle successful and unsuccessful prints.

“It took our team little time embedding the .NET Print Manager into our product and it prints everything reliably, even the edge cases!” Shane Creanor, Solution Manager

Upon purchase of a licence the team at Eclipse started to use the Print Manager API with SupplyPoint. Within minimal development effort, SupplyPoint was successfully setup and working with Foxit .NET Print Manager. Within a short period of time, Eclipse had identified a product that was not a workaround, it was a permanent fixture within their product that would allow customers to print PDFs reliably from any handheld device.
